  1. Polytechnic education plays a vital role in human resource development of a country by creating skilled manpower, enhancing industrial productivity and improving the quality of life.
  2. Vocational and Technical education is a major tool which advanced countries have used to develop their economies.
  3. Polytechnic education which is the bedrock of this development in Nigeria is faced with a myriad of challenges among which are: poor funding, deplorable infrastructure, obsolete and high cost of equipment, outdated curriculum, inadequate manpower and absence of a national commission for Polytechnics, among others.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  1. The National Board for Technical Education Curriculum should be reviewed towards ensuring that Polytechnic products are not only employable but also self-employed to a large extent.
  2. The Curriculum review should take into account the fast-changing global technological development and address contemporary challenges in Nigeria.
  3. New courses in the areas of fashion and clothing Technology, General Arts, Catering General Arts and Music should be introduced into the NBTE Curriculum.
  4. Nigerian Polytechnics should be better funded and infrastructural facilities should be provided for them.
  5. There is need for the establishment of a National Polytechnic Commission through which issues related to the running of Nigerian Polytechnics can be better addressed.
