Alhaji Mas'ud Akanbi Elelu, can succinctly be described as a multi-talented being; based on his history.
His portable stature betrayed the enormous gifts handed over to him at creation.
Born on July 27th, 1954 to the popular Elelu family, Elelu Compound, Alanamu Ward, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, his birth heralded the beginning of new tidings in the family.
Seven Years after his birth, Elelu started his early education at N.A. Primary School, Jimeta, Yola (then Gongola State), now in Adamawa State Between January 1966 – December, 1965 where he spent only six years.
From there, he moved to Government Secondary School, Yola between January 1966 – December,1970 for his Secondary School Certificate.
His Higher School Certificate (HSC) took him to Government Secondary School, Okene between 1971 – December, 1972. Due to his passion for higher qualifications, he proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry (1976) and Master of Science, Biochemistry, 1981 respectively.
Ladies and gentlemen, one visible trait that makes this man thick is his never-say-die attitude. He is never tired of reading.
The ever-young Elelu is also a proud holder of Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the ever-green Bayero University, Kano (BUK) 2000 and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the same citadel of learning.
Alhaji Mas'ud Akanbi Elelu's working experience started at Government College, Bida as a Youth Corps member between 1976 – 1977.
He proceeded to his Alma matter, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 1980 as a Laboratory Demonstrator. Not satisfied with only dealing with beakers, skeletons and other laboratory apparatus, he joined the service of one of the oldest and best Polytechnics in Nigeria and Africa, Kaduna Polytechnic in September, 1981 as Lecturer II and rose to the post of Senior Lecturer in 1987.
Because of the I-can do-spirit inherent in him, he joined the Industrial Training Fund Jos, as Principal Training Development Officer in 1990 and rose to the post of Director (Training) in 2004.
In 2007, he set up a consultancy services involved in management training. Elelu secured another juicy appointment with Media Trust Limited, publisher of Daily Trust Newspaper in 2008 and he was Senior Manager Training. In 2009, Elelu was appointed as the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, the first tertiary institution in Kwara State and one of the best tertiary institutions in Nigeria and sub-sahara Africa.
Since his assumption, he has served on several committees both at the state and federal level as well as in some private organizations such as Shell BP, Mobil Producing, etc.
AWARDS/HONOURSElelu has bagged several awards and honors such as Best Student in Chemistry, Best Manager, Area Office, ITF, Katsina, 1994, outstanding Area Award for Administration, ITF, Kano, Best Director of ITF etc.
Recently, he added two feathers to his cap, one from Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) as Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Management and another as Fellow of Chemical Society of Nigeria.
He is currently the Chairman, Council of Heads of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria (COHEADS) and Vice Chairman of Commonwealth Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (CAPA).
Elelu has attended several workshops, seminars and conferences within and outside the country.
He is widely travelled and has presented several papers at both national and international conferences.
