NUJ mourns Kwara Poly rector dad's death
The Kwara State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed grief over the passage of Alhaji Mahmud Akanbi Elelu, father of the Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic, Alhaji Masu'd Elelu.
The Union said while it is cognizant of the fact that every living soul shall taste death as spelt out in the holy scripture, it is saddening that the old Elelu, known to be a unifying force in his compound, could depart at the moment.
A statement issued in Ilorin yesterday by the Chairman, Kwara State Council of NUJ, Comrade Abiodun Abdulkareem, said it would be somewhat difficult to fill the void created by the passage of Alhaji Elelu.
The statement specifically condoled the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic and the entire Elelu family for what it described as a colossal loss and urged them to take solace in the fact that the old man lived a life worthy of emulation.
It prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant him Al-Janat Firdaus.
"The death of Alhaji Mahmud Akanbi Elelu is saddening and a colossal loss not only to Elelu family but the entire humanity. As an elder with a lot of wisdom, we have indeed lost a man with great honour.
"While we are unaware of death as the ultimate end of every living soul, which has been copiously spelt out in the holy scripture, it is saddening that it struck at the moment that the old Elelu was seen and widely respected as a unifying force within the family.
"With this death, it would be somewhat difficult to fill the void created by his departure to the next world. But we are comforted because of the fact that the old man exemplified and lived a life worthy of emulation.
"While we join the Elelu family in this moment of grief and express condolences, we beseech Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant him Al-Janat Firdaus on the day of reckoning", the statement said.
